By the late 1800s, Little Fort Road (now known as Lincoln Avenue) became a bustling commercial corridor serving the growing community.


During the early 20th century, Lincoln Square saw significant development and urbanization. The construction of the elevated train line, known as the "L," facilitated access to the neighborhood and spurred further growth. The area was named after President Abraham Lincoln in 1925 as a tribute to his legacy. In 1956 a statue was erected for him as well.

Nearby neighborhoods include Albany Park, Andersonville, Edgewater, Irving Park, North Center, Ravenswood, and Uptown.


The boundaries of the Lincoln Square community area are the Northern boundary 5600 and 6000 North (Bryn Mawr Avenue and Peterson Avenue), the Southern boundary 4400 North (Montrose Avenue), the Western boundary runs along the North Branch of the Chicago River, and the Eastern boundary 1800 West (Ravenswood Avenue).


The boundaries of the Lincoln Square neighborhood are the Northern boundary 5000 North (Argyle Street), the Southern boundary runs along the Brown Line at 4700 North, the Western boundary 2600 West (Rockwell Street), and the Eastern boundary 2200 West (Leavitt Street).
